The St. Louis Region has one of the highest breast cancer mortality disparities in the country. The regional breast cancer mortality rate of African American women is 90% higher than white women. The St. Louis (MO) Chapter Breast Health Equity Initiative strives to educate women on early detection, free screening, risk knowledge and risk reduction. The St. Louis (MO) Chapter has adopted the Healthy People 2020 statement of healthy equity which is defined as follows, “The attainment of the highest level of health for all people. Health Equity means efforts to ensure that all people have full and equal access to opportunities that enable them to lead healthy lives.”
